Hi Dan,

As far as I can tell (someone correct me if they see a better way) the only option left for you is to remove the default InsertRecord code in the action page of your student form, and write a custom insert query for both the student form and the UserClassJunction table, wrapping them in a <cftransaction> tagset if you need to handle both as a single transaction. You will probably want to look at using the DatabaseExceptionHandling snippet provided in the setup/Snippets folder of your project to handle exceptions.

HTH,

Jeff

I dunno either Jeff - :) I had thought to separate the tables out
because there is such a large amount of information a student, but not
any other user, has to fill out. InformationlData is just one of many
forms. Perhaps it's back to the drawing board time but I am loathe to
do this as I have come so far with this project.

Respectfully,
Dan

I dunno. This would be so simple if you just added the fields in the
Students table to the PlumUser table and made student and user synonymous. They really are, and going back over the earlier message thread regarding our earlier conversation, I still don't get why you didn't do this.

Remember that you don't have to give the students access to the admin
site. You can create a student module in the public side (outside of admin) and make fresh student forms using the PlumUser table with the added fields (omitting the admin stuff you don't want them to have access to). Create a STUDENT role, and use it to tie off the student module on the public side, so the general public can't get in there.

Then you can create a whole slew of forms for the student and you don't
have to jump through all those hoops to get what you want. You can still create all kinds of child relationships off of the PlumUser table. Now handling the UserID issue is moot.

Maybe I am missing something critical here, but that makes more sense to
me.

What am I missing?

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

You're right; the relationship is the same as between the PlumUser and
PlumUserRole tables. However, this is not an admin function. What I
have are students who need to select what class they are taking on the
InformationalData form and then populate that junction table. The
Display chooser control could work in the InformationalData form but

as

you can see I had to separate that data out from the PlumUser table
because not all users are students.

Hi Dan,

I think what you want is to add another DisplayChooser control in you
PlumUserAdd/Edit forms. The relationship is the same as between the PlumUser and PlumUserRole tables, if I read you right. Just open the PlumUserEditForm and make a copy of the control there at the bottom of the page and change the
variables to match the Classes table.

I have a form that populates the InformationalData table. Within that

populate a many-to-many join table (UserClassJunction) with the UserID

from the logged in user (I have that as a session variable) and the

ClassID from the Classes table. Hope that makes sense. I included a
diagram of the relationship in the original e-mail. Did it get

through?

I am a little confused (which is normal) tell me if i am interpreting
this correctly.
You have a form that you want to populate the InformationData table?

Good Morning Everyone,
I have the following relationship in my database. I have a Filtered
Select of ClassNumber from the Classes table displayed in the
InformationalData table form. That works well but I'm confused as to

how to

insert UserID ( I have UserID as a session variable - thanks Jeff)

and

ClassID into the many-to-many junction table UserClassJunction when
InformationalData form is submitted. Again, I greatly appreciate all

the

help you have all given me.
