I guess the same backlight issue has been reported 
as bug 3698:

Do you have the scanpci output for this machine?
That is the pci vendor and device id for the intel
video hardware?  Is it a "Intel i852GM/i855GM GMCH" ?
Part of this problem has been reported in bug 6625
