Thanks for replying thomas I tried removing QUANTIZE_COLORS=256 but of no use and on changing 'DRIVER "AGG/PNG"' instead of "GD/PNG map does not show just blank tiles are shown

It means your image contains 256 colors max. Try without it, but your images will be bigger (more colors = bigger size !). If you are using MapServer 5, you could try 'DRIVER "AGG/PNG"' instead of "GD/PNG". To find more help, I think you should use the MapServer mailing list...
