Hi Armin Thanks very much for the reply. I started again with a new installation of ms4W which resolved all of my problems with the php error_log and getting the pmapperv4 demo running. So far so good, but one problem remaining when I modify the demo data on which I hope you or someone can help.
I have changed the layer definitions in the map file and in config_default.xml, and copied my own data into pmapper_demodata. The demo runs and everything appears except the map, where the loading bar hangs indefinitely. Moving the scale slider provokes a php error, which is: PHP Warning: getLayerByName failed for : cities10000eu in C:\ms4w\apps\pmapper\pmapper-4.0.beta2\incphp\map\map.php on line 708 There is obviously still some reference to the original demo layer cities10000eu somewhere, but I have looked everywhere and can't find it. Any suggestions what I should do to overcome this (hopefully last) problem please? Any file path should probably be relative to the installation dir, the session path at least is as default '/ms4w/tmp', so I guess the error log file definition should be /ms4w/tmp/phperror.log. Otherwise I would guess that the php errors are written to the Apache error log.
