this works just on the basis of layers (which are defined in p.mapper 
generically as 'groups') , not for categories.

It might be possible to achieve this with not too much efforts. But you 
need to set up somehow the configuration and change some Javascript in 
pm.toc.js for which you should know JS programming and especially using 
jQuery.
