No, because that would simply cause {$$:Name} and {$$Name} to
be replaced by the same (pagevar) value. I'm thinking more like:
$text = preg_replace("/\\{\\$(\\$:\\w+)\\}/e",
"PVSE(PageVar(\$pagename, '$1'))");
