I am a conspiracy theorist. I was ejected from the womb with my fist
clenched and screaming, "Conspiracy!"
I do not believe that any government acts out of altruism or concern for its
own - or any other - people. It acts based on two considerations: money and
power. The two, of course, are interrelated and have a synergystic effect on
each other. The more one has of one, the more one will have of the other -
and the effect of the sum will be more than that of either addend.
For example, I don't delude myself into believing that the Allies went in to
Nazi Germany because our government gave a damn that Jews were being shoved
into gas chambers and fed into ovens. Perhaps individual soldiers cared -
but liberating the concentration camp victims was not (in my opinion) the
U.S. government's motive for involvement. It doubtless felt that Hitler was
growing too powerful for its liking in Europe.
