I am interested in a pragmatic future that moves us as
rapidly as possible towards a diferent energy
paradigm. Indeed towards an entirely new way of
existing in the world which I am comfortable calling
Die Wende. I wish to speak up for human ingenuity and
not celebrate the gangsters who throttle it's
expression. Humanity has accomplished so much with a
stone age mentality that a fully human outlook can
only accomplish much much more. When we look at the
number of highly able and intelligent people who are
able to be organized for pecuniary gain and personal
accomplishment in corporations or science labs or
universities we see the fruits of limited human
freedom. Imagine what a conciously human outlook
might accomplish if people took more pride in their
full humanity-instead of being loyal micro-serfs who
exist to simply gorge..
This technology for waste into oil is now three years
older. I do not know if more venture money has come
into the project. Clearly, though, it represents a
step towards a different energy paradigm-and could
serve as a bootstrap in a transition phase-warts and
all. As I think about our energy problems I envision
a garden of possibilities. Mass die-off is not one of
them. Not reliance on one single power source but
multiple changes. The point is that human beings are
equipped with imagination and may use this to bring
forward the positive as easily as the negative.
Dystopia or Utopia, both rely on perspective. We are
conditioned by history to think in the negative
fashion living as we are under the shadow of the
Hydrogen bomb. Humanity does have a living tradition
rooted in spirituality and culture that has survived
the savage storms of history and I suggest will in the
end prevail. I have hope and faith in humanity rising
above Predatory Capitalism--even if it takes another
5oo years of Resistance.
