A random note on Pod::Simple:

Anyone who's been spelunking in Pod::Simple's source lately (or maybe just
experimenting with it) might be wondering: "Hey, what about all that stuff
in perlpodspec that says that a Pod processor should be able to read Pod in
various encodings including Latin-1, UTF8, and UTF16?"

Well, the short story is that that part isn't done yet.

The long story is that I'm waiting to see how the current Unicode-support
stuff will shape up. What I'm really hoping is that if I open a file and
don't set a discipline for it (nor just do binmode(IT)), then automagical
guessing will take care of figuring out whether it's UTF8, UTF16, or
Latin-1 (or just plain seven-bit, at which point it doesn't matter whether
you consider it as UTF8 or as Latin-1).
