I don't know that it's pod2man that's the problem, in fact it seems
more likely to me that there were multiple name lines in the original
POD markup. 

That's the practice that I'm requesting should change.  I know you guys are
attached to POD as a master format, but being able to generate clean DocBook
from it is a big win for people who want to build databases of crosslinked
HTML documentation (like the ScrollKeeper project).

If the POD maintainer is listening, it would be a good thing if POD 
checked for and rejected multiple name lines, and name lines that don't
meet the form 

     name[, name]... \- description
