This does indeed work and solves the problem.
I can put out a podlators 2.0.1 right after a new Pod::Simple is
released
that requires it and calls reinit where appropriate.

Allison, do you have any timeframe for a new Pod::Simple?
Let me double-check with Steve. I can release it within the week if I
skip the core changes, but it makes sense to combine the fixes into
one release, if possible.
