no, it's not about Reply-To header.

That's questionable. If they are "in the mailing list", aka they are
subscribed, then you always address them twice. If they are not
subscribed there, then you would not reach them in other than reply-to-
all way, that makes sense (and I said I do reply-to-all if explicitly
asked to). I told you I'm here and I do reply to the list, thus we keep
the conversation on the list (not as with your private message you sent
me, which I more than dislike).

Yeah, yeah, I know how reply-to-all works.

Filters need to be more complicated, because the message doesn't come
through the list (it's missing List headers). I cannot Reply to list,
for the very same reason. It requires more work on my side to return
back to the list-only conversation. That's my personal habit. I only
asked you something; you do not need to do it, of course.

No, the client cannot detect the duplicate. Users can set the mailing
list whether they want to receive messages addressed to the list and to
them at the same time. In that case they do receive "duplicate"
messages, except they are not real duplicates, because the mailing list
modifies the message, both with the headers (some are added, some
removed), but also with the message content, because the mailing list
adds a "signature" of itself, like this:

(Your messages to me are not signed by the mailing list.) Thus they are
not real duplicates. Yes, one can rely on Message-ID, as Google Mail
does, but... That's another story.

Anyway, no need to argue. We all have some habits. Your is safer, I
agree with that. Mine is different. For me, if I begun the conversation
on the list, then I'll keep the conversation on the list (I never
replied directly to you, I always replied to/through the list).
        Bye,
