Hi Vilay,
I prefer people contact me via the mailing list in relation to POI. I'm
ccing this there. You can only imagine the volume of mail I'd get since
many questions are repetitive.
Unfortunately, there is no way to do that, and there may not be in the
near future.
the reason why:
In order to do that you have to create a *protected sheet* which causes
Excel to encrypt the data.
HSSF currently doesn't support protected sheets.
The trouble is that we can't develop this in the US or there are all
sorts of nasty regulations that make this
cost prohibitive for a volunteer organization especially without lots of
legal advice. So we'll need to develop this on a European server (in
one of the countries with more progressive attitudes towards
encryption). I can work on the plugin's for HSSF (so that you can run
with or without encryption), but not the actual pieces involving
encryption (they can use some widely available APIs I'm sure).
My company (SuperLink Software, Inc.) is considering developing this
commercially with some of my European and Asian cohorts, but it will
have to be a paid for project especially considering it won't be able to
be distributed with POI proper.
That being said. . You can kludge around this. Supposing you plan to
return this to the server on upload, you could keep an original and
return the cells to their previous state if changed.
