I had done apt-get update. But for some reason I had:

deb
http://www.pokersource.org/packaging-farm/poker-network/gnulinux/debian/dapper/src
./
deb-src
http://www.pokersource.org/packaging-farm/poker-network/gnulinux/debian/dapper/src
./

in sources.list and not:

deb
http://www.pokersource.org/packaging-farm/pokersource/gnulinux/debian/dapper/src
./
deb-src
http://www.pokersource.org/packaging-farm/pokersource/gnulinux/debian/dapper/src
./

That is, poker-network instead of pokersource.

I'm not quite sure where I got that from. On the website somewhere?

Anyway, with the right entry in sources.list I managed to get it
installed. Thanks for your help. I'll document my latest travails in
a new email!

Means you misconfigured something on your machine.

http://pokersource.org/packaging-farm/pokersource/gnulinux/debian/dapper/src/Packages.gz

        shows python-poker-engine

therefore apt-cache show should display it, even if there is
an installation bug (unlikely but possible). How familiar with ubuntu
are you ? Did you apt-get update ? Sorry if this is a stupid
suggestion.

        Cheers,
