It depends on the protocol you are using. With the binary protocol
used by poker2d or poker3d you need 300 bits per second per player on
average. You could host 3,000 users with 1 mega bits per second. The
other limiting factor is the CPU. Benchmarks show a single server
(i.e. a single process on a processor) can accomodate 4,000 players
maximum. You could run two servers to run two tournaments and have
8,000 players on a dual core.

With a SOAP client you need 2 kilo bit per second per user. With a
REST client such as jpoker you need 1 kilo bit per second.

If you are playing with friends, I guess a hundred players will be
more than enough for your needs and you will not need to tune anything :-)
