Impossible. By design, Polipo doesn't keep an in-memory index of the
disk cache, so it has no way of knowing how many entries there are in
a directory.
Obviously, it would be possible to have a file in each directory that
specifies the format of this particular site -- but that would mean
doing 2 opens for every URL, or implementing yet another in-memory cache.
