-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Fingerprinting schoolchildren? Date: Thu, 4 Mar 2004 21:49:50 -0600 From: Matthew Hunter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Declan McCullagh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
This one's a little more along PoliTech's usual lines. In a California district, schoolchildren are poised to be fingerprinted whenever they get on or off the schoolbus.
Apparantly this is supposed to help the school keep track of the kids, or more cynically, supposed to help the school say to the worried parents "Hey, your kid got off the bus at his stop just like he was supposed to! It's not OUR problem he didn't come home!"
The way I see it, though, the school that's doing this will be teaching kids a lesson: that they have no rights and that everyone is routinely treated as a criminal.
My take on it: http://www.triggerfinger.org/weblog/entry/4975.jsp
