Julia blinked and set her glass and plate down, regarding her for a moment.
"It's okay Derek." Kat was smart and it was only natural that she would
want to know.. especially if... had they died there too...?
She looked at Nick and then Derek, then turned back to Kat. This wasn't
really the place, true. There were others there and some of them,
thankfully not having heard the question because they were at a distance
while eating.. or at least she hoped not as she was sure at least one of
them wasn't a Legacy Member... but Kat still deserved to know.
She swallowed once and reached for one of the girl's hand, her tone quiet,
gaze sincere "Maybe we should go find your mother and talk. I'll answer
what I can... but we should maybe talk about this when there aren't so many
people around and your mom can be with you. Would that be alright?"
Kitty Kat, the word whispered out to her and she blinked looking at Kat.
Then she gently released her hand and started to stand, looking at the two
men in a silent request to go with them "Does anyone know where Ms. Corrigan
is?" And, of course, it would ultimately be up to Rachel as to whether this
discussion or what kind of discussion was going to happen. But Julia didn't
feel it fair to brush Kat off or try and dismiss her curiosity, at least
didn't feel like it was her place to tell her she couldn't ask. She held
out her hand to Kat and looked at Nick, hoping she didn't see the pained
expression of earlier.
"Outside," Derek replied standing up to go along. "I'd hoped she would be
back in here by now." He led the way. "Which brings me to another point, I
don't want anyone going out after dark alone." His dark eyes lingered on
Julia for a moment. "It isn't a good idea just now."
Kat nodded, not that she was allowed to do that anyway, and took Julia's
hand without hesitation. She felt real enough, warm and just like everyone
else. Though.....Kat shook her head as flash that looked like Julia
appeared before her eyes. Somehow, the little girl know that person wasn't
Julia, but she didnt' know what it meant. The person beside her was. It
was just a very fast glimpse nothing concrete, but it made the child shiver
slightly. "Doctor," she said suddenly then looked up at Julia, "My mom,
she's a doctor, a real doctor not like Derek," then her face turned red, "I
mean...."
Derek chuckled, "I know." They reached the doors just as Rachel and Danae
entered.
Kat was surprised to see her neighbor there. "Hi," she said giving her a
curious glance.
"Rachel, we need you for a moment....." Derek said looking at Danae. "There
is pizza in the drawing room. I'm sorry to keep shuffling you around, as
soon as we get this taken care of I arrange for a room for you."
Kat looked at Julia, "that's our next door neighbor," she whispered.
"but...she's never come here before."
