"I guess I am!" Nick got down far enough for Kat to jump on his back.
"cheater!" he called back then went after her.
Kat giggled as Nick took off in pursuit of Julia. She always enjoyed being
carried like this. It was something her mother never did and it sort of
reminded her of her father, but yet it was different, different but just as
good.
Sets Kat down on the bed after they entered the room. "You wanted to get a
box? whats in it?"
Kat looked at it curiously too. She always found small boxes to be very
intriguing. One of her favorite pass times was going through her mother's
jewelry box or Alex's.
Julia opened up the box and showed it to Kat. Inside lay a small gold
crucifix, the same one her grandmother had given her when she had been Kat's
age "This. I'd like you to have it."
She took it out of the box and held it in her palm as she explained "She
gave it to me when my own dad passed away. It has a lot of love in it and
love always keeps you close to those you care about." She smiled then and
unclasped the hook to put it around the girl's neck and then set it against
her pajama top "Whenever you feel sad or alone... hold on to that and think
of your dad and brother. They'll be there."
She gave Kat a half grin and a little nudge to get her to smile too "And me
too if you need me."
Kat smiled back completely speechless for a moment. She closed her hand
around the crucifix for a moment. She could feel a warmth flowing from it.
Perhaps it was her imagination or perhaps part of her sight, or just some
kind of mysterious magic. Whatever it was, it did make her feel very good.
She lifted the pendant and examined it closely. "It's really pretty. Won't
you get lonely for your daddy if you give it away?" This concerned her a
lot. She loved the necklace, but didn't want to take it if it meant Julia
might suffer because she did.
