"Oh, I'd love to go there," Kat said her eyes lighting up, "they have all
those cute kangaroos and koala bears! But you have to ride a plane for an
awful long time and I don't like to do that, maybe I can take a cruise or
something. Did weird stuff happen in Tokyo like it does here?" Kat thought
it might have, but you never really knew, so she always liked to ask.
Alex chuckled at that and drank from her mug, only to put it down at the
sounds coming from the front door and telling the other two to stay there
until she knew what it was.
Moments later she came back in and let them know that Derek and the others
had returned.
"And sorry to cut this short, young lady, but it's time to go back to bed."
She looked apologetically at Kat but would stand firm in her decision "If
your mom knew..."
That and Alex wanted to go out and talk to Julia, find out what it was that
had made her friend leave earlier angry and upset.
She motioned Kat to walk with her so she could tuck her in.
"But she doesn't," Kat protested, "do I have to?" She was wide awake and
didn't see any point in just staring at the ceiling of her room. "Common
Alex, please?" From the look on the woman's face she already knew the
answer to that question. "Goodnight," she said to Lani and then grudgingly
followed Alex out of the room, muttering softly, "just because I'm short
everyone wants to order me around."
