Alex leaned toward her "I'm not ordering you around, kiddo, I'm just doing
what your mom would want us to do.  It'd be kind of sad if you couldn't stay
with us because we didn't respect her wishes when it came to her daughter,
wouldn't it?"

Her tone had been gentle but she needed to put her point across.  They went
upstairs and Alex held Kat's door open for her, smiling gently as she
watched Kat enter and crawl back up into bed.  She went over and tucked the
comforter about her, touching the necklace Kat wore "Julia must really think
a lot about you to have given this to you.  You be sure to take care of it
okay?  It's pretty special with what it can do."

"I know," Kat said.  "She told me all about it."  Her small hand reached up
and touched the cross.  "I won't let anything happen to it, I promise.
Alex, why did Derek and everybody go out so fast?"  She was immensely
curious and had still not learned anything about that at all.
