Kat climbed on her back hugging Julia's neck
tightly. She wasn't too sure this was a good idea either. She
shivered slightly in the morning air as she was carried back outside. The
little girl looked at her mother and Derek and Lani, who looked like she might
hit someone any minute. And Nick, who also looked pretty mad. She
just wanted to run and hide from them all.
Kat heard the last little bit of conversation. "I don't want to go to the hospital, it's boring there," she interjected and then hid her face in Julia's shoulder ready for Rachel to yell at her again about democracies. And before Rachel could interject Julia looked at both
Derek and Rachel.
"Rachel doesn't want Kat here right now and fighting isn't
helping matters." She looked at Rachel, gaze earnest, feeling Kat's face almost
hiding in her thick hair and giving her a reassuring inverted hug since she was
on her back "Let me go back to the house and get what I'll need and I'll take
Kat to your house. I swear I will. And I'll keep a cell phone with
me to call if we need help or if something happens.
"And neither Nick or I drank more than a couple of sips
before the good squad showed up. We can both take Kat to Rachel's house
and watch over her. The two of you," looks at Rachel and Derek "Can work
the other issues out later. I just want to keep Kat safe."
Please stop fighting, her gaze pleaded to both of them,
knowing it was upsetting Kat. It's a solution, just take it.
"I'll drive Kat while Nick drives Rachel to the hospital
and he can meet us at the house."
Julia would make sure she had some basic weapons too, in
case trouble did show up. She'd pack them in the trunk when she was
putting a duffle bag with a change of clothes before driving Kat to her
house.
