"No," Derek said
firmly. "You will not." His gaze was no steadfastly on Julia.
"Nick and Rachel will go to the hospital and them come back here so that we can
discuss this further." He did turn his intense gaze on Nick at this point,
conveying that he was not playing around. "Until then, both you and Kat
will stay here." He motioned towards the cut on her head. "You need
to be cleaned up and if the state you were in when you got home is any
indication you need to be around other people, just in case. Nick needs to
stay at the hospital with Rachel. We will discuss your idea when they
return. Until then, you both will remain here. Luke," he called over
his shoulder. "Open the gate."
Julia visibly relaxed and
sighed, giving Kat a small smile as she went over to Rachel and let mother and
daughter hug, then started up the drive toward the door, still carrying
her.
With focusing on Kat she had
forgotten all about her head. Had been able to push the pain back because
the 8 year old had been so upset.
"How about after I clean up
we play some video games?" she asked, working on distracting Kat from the
arguments earlier and putting her at ease.
