As they were being herded god knew where, Kristen stayed close to Philip;
her mind was running furiously-the vampires had some sort of plans for them,
or the would have been killed immediately, so they had still had a chance.
But how much of one?
Philip walked beside her, keeping his eyes on his friend ahead and clenching
his jaw in worry, even as he gave Kristen's shoulder a gentle squeeze. His
gut had clenched coldly when the head Vampire had gone to Julia - it grew
even more fearful when he heard what the Vampire said and knew that, by the
undead's tone, that it knew Derek and would use Julia to try and flush him
out.
And he knew Derek. Derek would come after Julia without little regard to
himself.
Philip leaned close to Kristen's ear, whispering low "If we get a chance, I
want you te run. Run and get te Derek. Don't argue."
Get to Derek so that he at least had some idea of how many there were and in
which direction they were going.
Both he and Kristen were hearded into a dark and large automobile, windows
tinted so that barely light were able to enter the car.
The two that had taken them sat in the front seat.
The car started out and got into some light traffic, heading out of the
suburban limits.
A few minutes later, Philip saw the chance and, sparing a look at Kristen to
forgive him, took the opening he found.
"Forgive me." he whispered as he lunged into motion, grabbing Kristen by the
arm and wrenching the back door open and throwing her out to where she had
to roll down a slight slope as they started to get onto the freeway.
The driver cursed and hissed at the other, accusing him of not locking the
door, even while the one being accused had already started to lunge for him
and caught him before he could follow Kristen.
Philip heard the locks being locked and felt himself being shoved into the
seat.
Philip was reacting on instinct and had the small crucifix he carried in his
breast pocket out and pressed into the Vampire's forehead.
It caused a chain reaction as the Vampire howled in pain, knocked into the
other one and caused the car to go kareening out of control.
The car smashing into and then going over and down into a ditch was the last
thing Philip saw before he was tossed around and rendered unconscious.
The others before them continued onto the lair. They would not disobey and
would send reinforcements to check on their fallen bretheren.
