Derek sat down beside her resting his arms on his knees and dangling his
hands between them.

"It seemed like the only decision," he said quietly. He'd never meant to
hurt her.

"I just don't want anything to happen to you or Amelia."

"I know." Julia answered, her voice an almost whisper. And she did know.
She just couldn't fathom why he would think denying them would have helped,
in or out of Council. Had it been Derek, she wouldn't have cared who was
going against him, she would have never.....

It didn't matter. She didn't want to think about possible scenarios. She
needed to find some kind of... something, she didn't know what to call it.
She didn't want to lose Derek and a part of her felt like she already had.

And it hurt. A part of her wondered if broken hearts really did exist.

Slowly, her actions with a lack of emotion as she moved, she brought her
legs up and sat almost Indian style, setting her elbows on her knees as she
looked at the palms of her hands.

She looked around the room with sad eyes. She didn't even know what was
going to happen now; stay, go, stay in here and make it a half bedroom, half
nursery... be 'moved' back into Derek's room....

She looked back down at the palms of her hands and sighed, her shoulders
slumping.

Julia loved him and she knew he loved her. The two of them couldn't have
faced what they had up until now, felt the level of intensity and sharing
they had...

"You shouldn't let yourself doubt what's meant to be. You were given a
promise....... hold on to it......"
Michael's words from the library came back to her.

But how?
