> Amber took a slow, deep breath before beginning.
>"I know that you don't know me, and I understand that
>you nay have reservations about the whole situation,
>but my parents died when I was six, and Jane's been
>the one that's raised since then. She's like a mother
>to me, and I'm worried about her. I've known Jane
>almost all my life, and something is definitely going
>on, something that needs looking into. I also know
>that I didn't exactly get off here on the right foot,"
>she said, referring to the earlier incident, "but that
>doesn't mean that I'm a liar, or a troublemaker."
>Standing up, she once again revealed the deep gashes
>on her stomach.
>
> "This is what Jane did to me, supposedly for being
>too loud," she said, feeling her resolve full-force.
>"That's what she's capable of, with her bare hands, or
>maybe even worse," she said, covering her stomach
>again. "She seems to have eyes everywhere in the
>house. We've tried discussing it amongst ourselves,
>but each time she seemed to know and went off the
>wall, and our linguist Michael and one of our
>researchers Nina have both run into her while trying
>to look into possibilities elsewhere. Chris has
>pretty much told us to try to deal with it and not
>talk to anyone about it for fear of what she may do to
>us. That's also why calling ahead to see if
>anything's wrong would probably not do any good. I
>know it's not typical of a Legacy house to resign
>intself like that," Amber shrugged, "but it was the
>only thing we felt we COULD do at this point." Amber
>took another deep breath. She had surprised herself
>by the length of her speech, but she hoped it had done
>some good.
>
Derek took a deep breath and listened as Amber spoke. He was quiet for a
moment as he considered everything she said and the physical evidence she
had shown him. He too had known Jane for a very long time. When he finally
spoke, his tone as a bit gentler, but still very firm. "That is all the
more reason not to go. If what you say is true going there will accomplish
nothing other than put others in danger of getting hurt as well. If the
people who live in the house can not get anywhere without her stopping them,
then it is unlikely that anyone else would be able to get any further. In
fact, it is very likely that people who do not live there or haven't been
there will not get as far as those who are already there." He rested his
elbows and forearms on the table. "I'll call Sloan, tell him what is going
on and that I need an order for the other to come out here to help us with a
project. Once they are here we can discuss this matter. We can not bring
the entire house out without raising suspicion, but we can bring a few."
