"Why don't you help yourself to something to eat." Julia
suggested "While the guys get things started."
She kissed Derek on the cheek and nodded at Nick and Alex,
thanking them both for trusting her "Thank you. Go ahead and get
started. I need to run upstairs for a moment and I'll be right
there. I'll deal with the Soulchaser so you won't have to."
With that she patted her husband's arm and then went up
the next flight of stairs.
But, instead of going to her room, she turned to her left
and ended up on the roof. Julia closed the door behind her and stepped out
so that she was standing out from under the small incline that served as a kind
of rooftop above the door. The wind was blowing at this altitude and her
hair streamed across her face and behind her.
She moved the hair from her face and tucked it behind an
ear, looking up at the clear sky.
"Hello God... it's me." she said, walking a little further
and running her hand over her stomach "We need to talk."
"Of course," Julia pointed out with a little shrug "You
already know what I'm going to say.. or what I want to say."
A long pause.
"I'm scared." she admitted softly.
"He knows."
Julia turned to look at the angel "Michael."
Dressed as he was before - in his black turtle neck and
slacks - the Angel stepped forward "But he also knows you'll see it
through."
"She's growing strong." he commenting, nodding at where
Julia was lightly rubbing her hand.
Julia smiled crookedly and nodded as she looked at her
stomach, then looked back up at him "I don't want to loose him again,
Michael. Especially now - with our daughter..."
"You never did loose him, Julia. He never stopped
loving you or even forgot you for a single day."
"You know what I mean."
Michael nodded "That's why the Soulchaser was sent.
Just keep the faith Julia. Keep the faith and do what has to be
done. The Darkside thought that if they could weaken you by attacking and
hurting Derek, they would have a better shot at getting to you while you were at
a weak moment."
"It'll all work out."
Julia blinked "They were targeting Derek
specifically?"
The Angel nodded.
Julia lowered her hands and balled them up into fists,
calling out to the Soulchaser in a normal tone but knowing the guardian of the
damned would hear her "Simon, get your butt up here."
"You realize you are the only one that gets his attention
by calling him by his given name?" Michael asked humorously.
"Probably." she allowed, waiting for the guy to
appear.
