Hi John, reviewing the code of the paper input elements demo (http://www.polymer-project.org/components/paper-elements/demo.html#paper-input) they use an <input type="text"> in the shadow DOM, and this gets exposed correctly in the accessibility tree, so not sure what the cause of the issue is you are experiencing.
