Add a GPS (w/ PPS) source to your time server. GPS should be able to
give you reliable time to well under 1µs.
That's probably the easiest route, and relatively cheap (<$200),
assuming you can get the antenna somewhere with GPS reception (best is
outdoors of course).
Even lower-cost may be this board:

a link to get the PPS over the serial port). I saw this recommended on
