If you set up a machine with a single VM just running ntpd, I'd be surprised if
you
can detect significant differences. However, if you set up a *single* machine
with
ntpd running on the bare metal and several heavy loaded(*) VM's that also run
ntpd
on the same machine, then I assume ntpd on the bare metal will perform better.

(*) not network, but with regard to CPU, memory and disk access.

I'm curious for your set up and results :-)
