We use three GPS169PCI and GPS170PCI cards with Linux. Two of them _without_ external RS-232 loopback cable for PPS signal. The set up was simple. These stratum 1 servers report offset of 0.5-4 microseconds. I know someone who runs FreeBSD on the same hardware[1]. His offset is generally below 0.5 us.
