! Well, I was semi-serious.
!
! Consider iName and usa.net (Net@Address). NetAddress was a pretty
good
! service when I first got an account there. Then it just degenerated
! and then they had the unmitigated gall to charge for their awful
! service.

Hmm, come to think of it, I used to have a net@address account but, I
burned it as it NEVER worked for me! It was ALWAYS down here!! I find
that most of the poppers that work great for most of you, just plain suck
here on the West coast. I'm not sure if this is because of server overload
or just plain old internet congestion?! A good recent example of this is
"xanta.com" this domain just REFUSES to POP in any kind of a timely
manner.

I finally crap canned it too!!

! Of course, iName is a special case, but originally they let you try
! their accounts for free and then the service got worse and they too
! started to charge you for it.

The reason they charge is that they overload their servers so, rather than
upgrading the equipment, they start charging knowing full well that
MOST folks will bail on their service. This being the case, the service then
pickups up because there are now less loads on the servers.

! I have had great free pop3 accounts that the service decided after time
! to charge their users. That is a lost account in my way of thinking.

Well, it's not FREE any longer. Sometimes ya get what ya pay for.<G>
Mind you that the paying customers are probably singing to the wholly
heavens as the service get's better from the mass exodus of free clients.

! Let's see...how long has Yahoo offered POP3? Two...three years? And !
! here we begin to see some serious server problems.

Yahoo has ALWAYS worked well here, I think it's more a problem of
internet conjestion on your end than Yahoo crapping out. Also, Yahoo is
merging with another company and, this alone will cause some outages as
they increase and integrate the two companies into one.(don't ask me who
they're merging with, I saw it on the news weeks ago but, it's all gone
now)<G>

! MailandNews got bad after two years but to their credit, they improved
! their service a great deal. You have to give them their due. :-)

THEY NEVER work here!!<LOL> I hardly ever get them POP in a timely
fashion here. And yet, they work great for you! ...Go finger!<G>

! For those on our list that have or have had experience with accmail,
! you know that accmail servers come and go. It can be the same way with
! free, remote pop3 servers. Some just fold up. Some begin to charge
! for the services. It is the nature of the beast. Alan

Well, Yahoo and Hotmail are still free. So is Softhome and a slew of
others! I think it's more along the lines of which ones can handel the load
and which can't.

Well, that's my two cents for what it's worth!

Ciao!
