Tim, I get the same problems using OE and Hotmail. In fact, of my two
Hotmail accounts I have, sometimes only one would work with OE. Just last
month, both of my Hotmail accounts stopped working in OE. I would get a
dialog box asking me for my password over and over without letting me log
into Hotmail in OE. Maybe this is why Hotmail with OE is still in beta after
all these years?
I tried using MSN Explorer since it has a neat way of monitoring and
downloading Hotmail as a solution. But I could not get that to work
correctly either. MSN Explorer would tell me that I had email waiting but
when I tried to get the mail, MSN Explorer would give me a message saying
that I probably was not connected to the internet when I was.
Rumor has it that some other POP3 email services will be switching to web
mail and utilize a service like MSN's in the future. NetZero is supposedly
one of these services running beta tests to do this in it's upcoming version
from what I've heard. That's too bad because NetZero is my most reliable
POP3/SMTP email service but Yahoo is almost as good.
I gave up on trying to find something that would download Hotmail. Yahoo
works so much better for doing this. Now I give out my Hotmail address only
when I am required to fill out web forms. That way all the spam generated
goes to one place and is automatically filed as bulk mail and deleted. No
need to download spam anyway so Hotmail works quite well for what I intend
to use it for.
