nathalie, that's okay if you like spice girls and feel it's relevant- however, as a music fan myself, i have to criticize your taste and judgement (feel free to reciprocate if you want). you're wrong to assume that i'm an indie fan though- coincidentally, i lament indie values and i hate indie associations, the same way i lament the musically deprived mainstream. i guess that's where i'm somewhat out of place on this list, but it is about "pop" and for pop-lovers, not "indie" and indie-lovers, is it not? my bias isn't strong though: my favorite band ever is called "cranes" who are now an indie band, and despite all stephin merrit's protestations, he is, as that chickfactor interviewer put it, "the king of indie" (sorry stephin), and yet i'm still a fan. my tastes include lush, rasputina, the art of noise, this mortal coil, as well as nina hagen, new order, mazzy star... yes, i'm a shoegazer at heart and i have a love of that ethereal sound (which isn't necessarily the "4AD sound"), but i place all my cds in the same file: (old-school) madonna, eiffel65 (they seem stupid but i think they were just aiming high on the charts- nobody can be so stupid as they seem with those videos!), that "bailamos" boy... it goes on i'm shure. as you can see, i'm not an indie-lover, nor am i a top40 basher. all those ideals, whether they be indie (yawn), punk (will it die already?), goth (laugh), it's all the same. does any of this validate my criticism or do you still assume my biases? in the end, i know that there's a difference between a winner and a loser- spice girls are the award winners, and oh, say, nick drake is one loser. that's the way it is, but i have to say that it's all in poor taste. i am fed up with people saying that because a band is >in the charts/makes a lot of hits, it doesn't make great music. that's your bias, not mine. sorry. >let's not be brainwashed by indie either. but i think we're surrounded, nathalie.
