wow...
this concept is quite amazing to think about. it reminds me of all the
different times i've had one or two people over at my house and i'm
desperately trying to convey to them how much i love a new recording and
playing it for them.
i think something like a music theatre would dim the lines between recorded
an live music even more... i already find it strange when i'm at shows to
hear music that is familiar to me only through one recording with no
variations. classical music, as a contrast, is almost always played live and
changes with each group that performs it. hmmmmm.... because of this, i
would say that bands seem to be more...art, in the terms of them making some
sort of individual musical statement that no one else can reproduce.... than
classical music. (okay, i'm typing as i'm thinking.... so bear with me). so,
this whole music theater thing would be really cool because it would
familiarize groups of people with all sorts of musical statements.
however, when i think of music, i don't think of sitting in a dimmed theatre
passively. music is an active medium that spawns images and movement. maybe
i should try just sitting and listening sometime. the only time i hear music
in the dark is when i'm about to go to sleep.
anyway, i think it's still an idea brimming with all sorts of possibilities.
sorry for my rambles.
Danica :)
