i saw the virgin suicides about 2 weeks ago and i really enjoyed it. [i
posted, but i forgot to send it to the list]
odd, i thought it would be quite a boring film since you knew the premise
long before you even bought your ticket. strangely enough, it works, very
well at that too. i think there's a lot of distractions in the film to make
you forget that you know the ending, from how the film looks, to
incorporating a small plot, etc, that by the end you're actually surprised
at what happens but not because of the ending itself but how it happens. i
didnt think that sofia coppola's choice to film the whole movie as if it
came right out of a fashion mag was a good idea initially, but that was one
of the distractions of the film. the more i became wrapped up in the beauty
of it, the more shocking the ending was and for a moment, i felt like one of
those teenage boys - trying to make sense out of the myths that surrounded
the girls, and still coming up with nothing.
as for the recent postings of b&s on here, i would have to agree with
someone's earlier comment - i probably would not have joined if i knew a lot
of the convo surrounded the group. does anyone listen to any other kinds of
pop besides the above-mentioned band? i have to speak for myself on this,
but ive been spending more time with my old country [like jim reeves] &
motown records than i have been with anything thats been made in the last
ten years.
