I tested it here on amd64. The help files are not found and unicode characters are displayed as hex values prefixed by \u. I am away the next few days, so if someone wants to look into the issue with the help files he is welcome. But I think there will be no fix for the unicode problem unless there is a ncurses with unicode support either in ports or in the base system. Got no time to test the pgp support either, SSL connection to the jabber server seems to work.
