more strange (or maybe not?) it works for me with kde as a window
manager but not with blackbox. I know /tmp/ksocket-$USER needs to
be "manually" created when running artsd under !kde, but apparently
something else is needed ... for SDL/arts audio to work??? I even
tried starting kde, logging out and then starting blackbox, but it
still doesn't work.

again, this apparently only affects SDL/arts audio output. artsplay
works when using artsd under blackbox.

Alexander, how is artsd started on your system?
