So when you started out, a few tips could have helped, but now you know
your way around, good for you. meta-packages are not a way to force you
into installing things if you don't want to, individual packages can
still be installed. But plenty of gnome users have no clue what needs
to be installed and then started for it to work correctly. I think it's
a little sad people don't get a full blown gnome desktop without
installing plenty of packages manually. Most other ports you just pkg_add
away and run (e.g: firefox).
