I thought the author of the page marked links he wanted the browser to prefetch. This can (I know it won't, hence the knob) filter out the stuff you won't be reading and even on a good connection I wait because some idiot uses ads from 10 different domains, which means 10 different DNS lookups and by the way eight of them is hosted on that 56k modem and the whole page is in a <table>, so you wait for the slowest ones anyway.
