That would likely make it work. But I don't think we could push such a patch upstream. My current patch isn't good enough for upstream, either, of course. So I'd appreciate suggestions that result in something more upstream-friendly than my current patch, something worth spending more of my time on. If we can only come up with more upstream-unfriendly solutions, we might as well just use my current patch, which I've already spent time testing. I don't want to waste more time testing again for no good reason.
