I had been a heavy user of nvi-m17n + canna for long time, but I
switched to nvi-iconv + uim-fep few years ago.  Actually nvi-m17n was
better in some functions (eg. moving forward/backward words on
Japanese text), but they are not serious for me.

I don't think so.  If exists, I'd suggest them to switch nvi-iconv.
