Mrs. Rafferty:
A number of perfectly charming people who are not in fact from the Big
Mango have offered you advice and encouragement, as is only right, well and
good for someone suffering from your tragic affliction. But I am not here
to offer advice, (or to unwrap a Kraft single), 'cause, as you can tell
from my slightly askew tone, possible to misinterpret at all time as
dripping with something or other, I AM actually one of those lengendary New
York fans of twang these nameless spies from the left coast have warned
you about. You are not alone, I warn you--some formerly suffering in
silence with your condition now post here a lot, some maybe don't hear
from so much lately or see except at their own gigs.
(Yes, Mrs. Rafferty, there are twang performers here too, as unbelieveable
as that could appear.)
So OK; here's the deal. At least a couple of us, maybe more, will be
attending the Kelly Willis/Bruce Robison show at the Mrecury Lounge here in
the bucolic East Village on the evening of Saturday April 24. Why don't
you arrange for a ticket and we can arrange to meet you there (with or
without your semi-interested husband; you are not alone in coming from a
mixed marriage of this sort, you will discover) , or even for eats before.
You can discuss this on-list, as I just did, to get some New York
semi-lurkers more riled, or off-list.
And if you want to see just how loyal and excited New York twang fans can
be, it's practically mandatory that you make your way to that Merle
Haggard-Mike Ireland-Fred Eaglesmith show at Tramps on Monday the 19th. I
am forced to be in Las Vegas that night, because somebody pays me for
stuff like that--but it will be wall to wall New York twangers in there,
you can bet. Probably some P2ers too.
OurP2 contingent here is not huge, but it's feisty--and we've all found
ways to deal with The Problem.
