Just this:
relay/unix/fallback_relay =
relay/unix/syslog_name = postfix/$service_name
Not much to pull from :-(
But, thanks to rethinking after seeing your response, I realised that it
was a case of "cache induced delusion". I have removed
/var/lib/postfix/verify.db and all works as documented. The address and
result was cached from some early morning tests before I was called to
help, so, postfix was doing what it was intended to: using its cached
results before disturbing the backend server.
Usual PEBKAC, but this time the P was a seasoned sysadmin 🤣
My excuses for the noise and my gratitude for your time.
