Wrong

In summary more SMTP servers are talking to other servers than to clients
because the client is sending his mail once and has nothing to to with
the following relays and the rcpt is often on another server so the
message must be delivered to him

If you are meant the encryption is not important while relay between
servers the you can stop encryption totally because it would be totally
useless if the first hop will relay plain and all following transfer
goes the same way as every plain message
