You really got me here. > - Cross-platform. Can you run TypeAndRun on Linux or Mac? No. Frankly I don't care about Linux or Mac, at least up to now. > - Reusing code. I mentioned already my guess about it elsewhere. But, I wouldn't repeat it. (Highly likely) guess is also just a guess. Maybe alias (and its autocompletion) do not appeal as basic or essential to most of the (Window's) users, at least not yet. But who knows, in view of the fact that URL autocompletion and path autocompletion indeed become very popular these days. Or, they are completely unaware of the alias concept. > - Fun. But, how on earth many diverse needs would be for the alias programs? Alias (and its autocompletion) is basically the one, that TAR can do (almost) perfectly. I know you need more. But TAR can do those too flawlessly. Need much more? Request them! The author of TAR is widely open to any suggestions and very fast to implement them if found useful, fortunately. > Finally, shipping an interpreted language script as a single > executable is not trivial. I knew I never knew that. :-) To be more specific, what I was concerned was the speed which is at the heart of the autocompletion. I suspected the (would-be) slow-down of the speed while doing it using an interpreter, when compared to, e.g., that of TAR and/or of the latest PP. Maybe fine for two or three character aliases, but probably not for more-chacracter ones. Well, I may be wrong. I hope I could see it soon, then. > These languages are designed to do just about everything. > Writing autocompletion code in Tcl can be quite trivial. > If you are a "total novice in programming", get to learn a little > more about any full-fledge scripting language and you will see. I'll, but afraid not in a forseeable future. My computer life has been becoming simpler after using PP: found out a perfect program to my needs I'm eagerly looking for that I expected to enhance my computer life a lot, but in turn, on the contrary, it reduced fastly my interest in the computer in an unexpected way. Ironic? Yeh... I guess that is a life though. ------------------------ Yahoo!
