As far as I know, there isn't any way to do what you describe over the Yahoo! Groups web interface. Personally, I just keep all of the messages I receive in my Inbox and therefore searching through them is quite easy. I know that that doesn't mean much to anyone who hasn't been receiving Emails for over a year though...
