I was just thinking about some things with pickfile, and was wondering what
implementations people use out there for simplifying it's use.
I'd love to be able to dynamically mix-and-match pickfile with some standard
commands:
Pickfile favorite folder
Pickfile files from one of a list of favorite directories to open
Pickfile files from directory to open with choice of viewers
Pickfile files from directory to edit
Pickfile files from directory to edit with choice of a editors
Etc.
My only quirk right now, is that I can build a command to use the pickfile,
and to send it to a program (or use the picked file as a parameter to
another command etc) but I have to manually build each syntax for the
different uses (use pickfile as command, use pickfile as parameter etc - eg.
do(pickfile(file.listfiles("c:/My Documents/*.*", 1),"Open File"),"") What
if I wanted to use this command to send a document to an editor, instead of
using the default open command? What if I wanted to use pickfile to pick
from some programs to send it to? I'd have to re-mix the command to put the
pickfile in the right place.
Ravi's talk about multiple arb items got me thinking that maybe I could
somehow use that as the mix-n-matcher for this. Anyone have any ideas on a
best method on how to do this? Another example: Pickfile from a list of
programs, and execute with &(BrowserURL) etc (send a webpage to my html
editor, or other browser, or ftp client, or telnet client, or ssh client
etc). What if I had text selected before triggering arb and that command did
a clip.copy before the arb edit box is called. Then have a parameter
attached to the command that will use the clipboard as part of the arb
command.
Maybe I should make some variables that call certain stock functions?
Pffdir (does a pickfile from a list of favorite directories built from a
list in a text file).
Pffav pickfile from favorites
Pfdir pickfile from directory
Pfmdoc pickfile from My Docs
Pfprog pickfile from list of programs in start menu
So you could run things like "pfprog -pfmdoc" or "notepad -pfmdoc" or
"firefox -pffav"
Anyone else have any other ideas? :)
