Ah, that's a step forward! But unfortunately it only colors the 
buttons, not the whole bar. I use bars which stretch along the full 
screen height, but are not (yet) entirely filled with buttons. So 
there's always a portion with the default bar color left at the bottom.
I could put an empty button with the correct height there, but I would 
have to adjust it each time I add a new button.
Another thing is that I lose color gradients that way, but I guess I 
could bear that.

Looks like I should start learning scripts...
