In Beta 4.4.08, some of the items in Help Index lead to a dialog
with an empty list, which should list a few related topics.
You have to dismiss the empty dialog with its X button.
Index "*File" shows the correct dialog I'm referring to
but these Index entries are broken:
*Desktop
desktop *command
desktop icons
*Exec
exec *command
*Format
format *command
*Menu
[but "menu *command" works OK]
*Window
window *command
.ini configuration file
active bar buttons
alarm scheduling
assign variable value
bar active
bar position
[but "bar *command" and other "bar..." entries work]
button active
caption list
chord 2 mouse buttons
At that stage I got tired of clicking to test them.
It seems about ten per cent of Index entries are broken.
You can still reach all those items by using Help Contents
instead of Help Index.
--------------------------------------------
I tried investigating what went wrong, although it's difficult
to trouble-shoot without seeing the current .rtf source file.
Looking at one example, the Caption lists topic.
There are several index entries which used to jump to
that topic, such as "window handles", "window target",
"class of window", etc.
Now they all produce that empty list dialog.
Contents: "General syntax guidelines", "Caption lists" works.
In PowerPro.cnt that points to: caption_list
Also, the following command still works:
"%windir%/winhlp32.exe" -I caption_list C:\Shells\PowerPro\powerpro.hlp
Therefore it seems that in the .rtf source, the "#" footnote
for each topic is unchanged and correct.
So I guess that either some of the K footnotes in the .rtf
are damaged (they are used for constructing the Index)
or something else went wrong when compiling the .hlp file.
-----------------------------------------
Maybe that was only a quirk of the current compilation
and easily fixed with a setting in the help compiler.
Or maybe it will be more time consuming to correct.
If so, I can offer to do that job.
You could send me the current .rtf .hpj .cnt in a zip attachment.
"alan_au" at "internode" dot "on" dot "net"
I would only fix the structural things such as footnotes,
or whatever else is needed to make all the index entries work,
without editing any body text. That way there would be a
quick turnaround of about one week.
---------------------------------------
Also, I notice that whenever you mention a new or changed
built-in function in the "New for this release" topic,
you always link to the "Expressions" topic [id: _expression_].
IMHO they should link to the "Functions by category" topic
[id: functionscat] which is where the new/changed thing is
actually documented.
If you like, I could edit those links in "New for this release"
as well as fixing the index.
